OVERVIEW: For this typographic redesign, I wanted to create a cookbook that celebrates the joy of bringing people together around food. 'The Art of Gathering' uses a distinctive blue and cream color palette that feels both fresh and timeless, perfect for a book about creating memorable food experiences. I developed a playful yet sophisticated approach to the typography, pairing a flowing script for titles with clean, readable text for recipes. What makes this project special is the hand-drawn line illustrations that appear throughout—from kitchen tools on the table of contents to elaborate table settings for chapter openers. These illustrations create a cohesive visual language that ties the entire book together while adding warmth and personality.
The layout design maintains a clear hierarchy between recipe titles, ingredients, and instructions, ensuring the book remains functional while still being beautiful. I carefully considered the reading experience, creating generous margins and breathing room so cooks can easily follow along while preparing dishes. The cover wraps the repurposed book in a pattern of illustrated cooking elements, inviting readers to explore what's inside. I'm particularly proud of how the section dividers use bold color blocks of royal blue with white illustrations to create moments of visual impact between recipe sections.
This project challenged me to balance aesthetics with usability while working within the constraints of an existing book structure—skills that translate directly to real-world design problems.
